Rules for choosing accessories correctly

Hello! Do you know how to make an outfit look completely different using the same clothes? Using accessories or Smyckestillbehör in Swedish!

Accessories can make your look look completely different, take it from the most sophisticated to the most informal. Accessories are considered: glasses, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, caps or hats, pashminas, and bags.

These are my best tips to learn how to choose accessories:

  1. Choose one as the protagonist

Large and very striking accessories are valid, but try to choose just one. Try not to wear a super necklace alongside a big bracelet or huge earrings. Let that accessory of your choice be the focal point of your look.

Also consider this with your clothes. For example, if you are wearing a blouse with a very striking print, avoid also wearing a large necklace, because they compete with each other.

  1. You can combine earrings and necklace

It is valid to wear earrings and a necklace of the same set. But it is also valid to combine different outfits, just make sure they have something in common, such as shape, color or some particular characteristic that helps create harmony.

  1. Match the bag with the shoes

In past times it was said that the bag and the shoes had to be the same color, even that they should also be combined with the belt. Today it is no longer necessary to follow this rule. You can use contrasting colors and play with the combinations.

  1. The watch is not worn at night

If you have an event where the dress code is a long ball gown, you should leave your watch at home. The watch makes your look completely informal and breaks with the code that the dress represents.

  1. Highlight your accessories with an all black look

If you have accessories that you really love and want to fully highlight your look, wear black or white, including shoes. Your accessories will stand out and will be the protagonists of your look.

Remember that accessories also depend on your colorimetry, body type and face shape. If you have doubts, you can buy my book “Imperfect Image Guide” here. Also, make sure they go in harmony with your look and in balance with the rest of the clothes.
